We at the Clean Oceans Campaign are well aware of the fact that you cannot save the world's oceans without saving the rest of the planet simultaneously. The three big factors affecting the environment are overconsumption, overpopulation, and our broken political system. All three of these things are inter-related and affect each other. To that end, we are recommending several books, articles, video, and audio media. The more you know about the environment, the more you will care about biodiversity and abiotic environmental systems and subsequently, the more you will be inspired to take much needed action for a good cause.
Books
"The Destruction of California"
By Ramond Dasmann
This book may be the most important book you ever read about the environment. Even though this book was written about half a century ago, this visionary author accurately describes the number one problem in California today as well as 50 years ago. I would vote for this book as the one most likely to enable a person to have an eco-epiphany.

This big fat gem of a book talks about the history of water in the west. Included in several chapters are some amazing tales and facts about who is responsible for the most massive irrigation and pumping projects on the planet.

"The Myth of Progress"
By Tom Welleson.
This author uses the laws of physics to illustrate just how unsustainable our current notion of progress really is. This is a fascinating read and written in a way that can be understood by those who don't necessarily have a scientific mind.
